As our pets get older, their needs naturally change—and we’re here to help every step of the way. At Lake City Animal Health & Wellness Center, we understand how important it is to keep your senior pet feeling their best, even as they slow down a little. Whether they’re dealing with arthritis, vision changes, or just showing signs of aging, we’ll help you navigate this stage with compassion, support, and expert care.
Just like with people, aging looks different for every pet. Small dogs and cats are usually considered seniors around age 7, while larger breed dogs often reach their senior years a bit earlier—around age 5 or 6. Regardless of when it starts, the aging process brings physical and behavioral changes that are easier to manage with proactive veterinary care.
Senior pets do best with a little extra attention and more frequent wellness visits—usually every 6 months. These checkups help us catch small issues before they become bigger problems and let us tailor care to your pet’s changing needs.
Some of the things we may include in your pet’s senior care plan are:
Older pets might start to sleep more, move a little slower, or lose interest in things they used to love—but that doesn’t mean their golden years can’t be great ones. With the right care, many senior pets stay happy, active, and comfortable well into old age. We’ll work with you to create a customized plan that keeps up with your pet’s needs and gives them the quality of life they deserve.
If your pet is getting up there in years, we’d love to be part of their journey. We’re here to help them age with love and comfort. Because no matter their age, they’ll always be family.
