A Healthy Smile Goes a Long Way

Our pets need regular dental care to stay healthy and comfortable. Dental disease is one of the most common health issues we see in dogs and cats, and it can lead to serious problems if left untreated including infections, tooth loss, and even issues with the heart and kidneys.

That’s why we take your pet’s oral health seriously here at Lake City Animal Health & Wellness Center. It’s not just about fresh breath (though that’s a plus!) It’s about making sure your pet is pain-free and thriving.

Dental Exams Included in Every Checkup

Every time your pet comes in for a physical exam, we take a close look at their teeth and gums. We check for signs of:

  • Plaque and tartar buildup
  • Gum inflammation or bleeding
  • Loose or damaged teeth
  • Bad breath (a possible sign of infection)
  • Oral growths or abnormalities

This helps us catch any issues early and guide you on the best steps for care.

Professional Dental Cleanings

When it’s time for a deeper clean, we offer professional dental cleanings under anesthesia. This allows us to safely and thoroughly clean every tooth—above and below the gumline—where most plaque and bacteria like to hide.
Our cleaning process includes:

  • Ultrasonic scaling to remove built-up tartar and plaque
  • Polishing to smooth the tooth surfaces and help prevent future buildup
  • Full oral exam to check for any hidden problems
  • Dental X-rays, if needed, to assess the roots and structures below the gumline

Tooth Saving Treatments & Extractions

In some cases, we may find teeth with root damage or infection. If possible, we’ll try to save the tooth by placing slow-release antibiotics around the affected area. This helps fight infection and gives the tooth a chance to heal.

However, if the damage is too severe, we may recommend extracting the tooth to keep your pet comfortable and prevent further issues. Our team handles every procedure with care and compassion, and we’ll walk you through everything to make sure you feel confident and informed.

Healthy Mouth, Happy Pet

Regular dental care can make a big difference in your pet’s overall well-being. If you have questions about your pet’s teeth, or if it’s been a while since their last cleaning, give us a call—we’re happy to help you keep those tails wagging and smiles shining!
